Neon’s ‘Anora‘ swept the 30th Annual Critics Choice Awards by winning Best Picture. Sean Baker’s indie film’s illustrious journey began with the Palme d’Or at Cannes and has now shined even brighter.
Although ‘Anora’ entered the awards night with seven nominations, it didn’t initially win much. But as soon as the final category was announced, the film surprised everyone. Now, ‘Anora’ is a contender to continue its winning streak at the DGA and PGA Awards this weekend.

Critics Choice Awards: Enora Wins, Wicked Shines
The Critics Choice Awards were hosted by Chelsea Handler, who hosted for the third year in a row. The awards show is considered a key signal for the Oscars. Last year, Oppenheimer won eight major awards, including best picture—a title that went to Enora this year.
Wicked, which was the most nominated film this year, won three major awards. Jon M. Chu won best director, an Oscar snub. In addition, Wicked won costume design and production design, although major stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande missed out on acting categories.
Critics’ Choice Awards: Conclave and Emilia Perez win
Conclave won this year’s awards for Best Ensemble Cast and Original Screenplay by Peter Straughan. The film was already a buzz, and now its popularity has increased after these wins.
Emilia Perez wins big
Emilia Perez, who received 10 nominations, also performed brilliantly. The film won three major awards, including:
Best Supporting Actress (Zoe Saldana): This strengthens her Oscar bid.
Best Foreign Language Film: This Netflix film from France is now gaining recognition internationally.
Best Song (“El” Mal”—Saldana, Gascón and Camille)
However, the film’s lead actress Carla Sofia Gascón was not included in the show due to controversies.
The Substance and Demi Moore shine
The other big winner tonight was Mubi’s The Substance.
Demi Moore solidified her Oscar position by winning the Best Actress award.
Writer-director Coralie Fargeat was honored for an adapted screenplay.
The film also won an award in the Hair and Makeup category.
Adrien Brody wins for second time in a row
Adrien Brody repeated his Golden Globes win by winning the Best Actor award for The Brutalist. However, the film was limited to just this one award this time, while it won the Best Film/Drama award at the Globes.
Critics’ Choice Awards: A Real Pain and Deadpool & Wolverine rock
This year’s Critics’ Choice Awards saw many films and TV shows make their mark. A Real Pain and Deadpool & Wolverine jointly won the Best Comedy Film title. In addition, Kieran Culkin won the Best Supporting Actor award, making the film a double winner.
Challengers won in score and editing
Demi Moore and Adrien Brody
Amazon MGM’s film Challengers won in two major categories:

Best Editing
TV show Shogun won the most awards
FX/Hulu’s show Shogun, which received six nominations, performed brilliantly. The show won four major awards:
Best Drama Series

Best Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress
However, it missed out on winning the Best Drama Actress award. Kathy Bates (Matlock) won the category, beating Emmy winner Anna Sawai.
Hacks Makes Its Mark in the Comedy Category
HBO|Max show Hacks also won three awards:
Best Lead Actress: Jean Smart
Best Supporting Actress: Hannah Einbinder
Best Comedy Series
Shogun Is the Biggest Winner
This year, Shogun made history by winning the most trophies in both the movies and TV categories with four.
Critics Choice Awards: Colin Farrell, Cristian Milioti and Baby Reindeer win big
Colin Farrell made a big entry at this year’s Critics’ Choice Awards with HBO|Max’s The Penguins. He brought his film-world Oswald Cobblepot to the small screen and won the Best Actor in a Limited Series award. Cristin Milioti of the same show also won the Best Actress award, making the series a topic of discussion and a huge hit with fans.
However, the Best Limited Series award went to Netflix’s Baby Reindeer, which impressed both audiences and critics. The show’s Jessica Gunning also won a trophy for her strong supporting performance, further strengthening her chances in the Oscar race.
This year’s Critics’ Choice Awards aired live on the East Coast, while on the West Coast it was shown on tape delay on E! Network. The show, on the other hand, will be available on the streamer on Saturday, allowing more viewers to watch it.
