Prince William is opening up about one of his most important causes in a new two-part documentary called “Prince William: We Can End Homelessness.”
The docuseries, which focuses on William’s efforts to tackle homelessness, will first be available on Disney+, as announced by Good Morning America on Monday. In the UK, viewers can also catch it on ITV on October 30 and 31.
A newly released clip from the documentary shows William sharing a heartfelt memory from his childhood that includes his brother, Prince Harry. This mention of Harry is especially notable, as William rarely speaks about him publicly these days.
The teaser for the documentary was shared on YouTube on Friday and features Prince William talking about how his mother, Princess Diana, first taught him about homelessness. She took him and Prince Harry to a charity called The Passage, which helps people who are homeless or at risk of losing their homes.
William shared, “My mother took me to The Passage; she took Harry and me there. I must have been 11 or maybe 10. I had never been to anything like that before, and I was a bit nervous about what to expect.” He explained that his mother was friendly and made everyone feel comfortable by joking and laughing.
He recalled thinking, “If everyone doesn’t have a home, they’re all going to be really sad.” But he was surprised at how happy the atmosphere was.
William remembered having good conversations, playing chess, and talking with people during their visit. He said, “That’s when I realized there are other people who don’t have the same life as you do. When you’re young, you think life is just what you see around you. You don’t really understand that there are different experiences. Meeting people like I did then changes your perspective. I heard someone say, ‘I was living on the street last night,’ and it shocked me.”
“Prince William: We Can End Homelessness” was filmed over 12 months and offers a detailed look at William’s Homewards program. This program is designed to show that it is possible to end homelessness, as stated in a press release.
In a second clip from the documentary released on October 16, Prince William responds to those who might wonder if he is the right person to lead this project.
“I believe everyone deserves a safe and stable home, and that benefits us all,” he said. “I have no other goal than to help those in need. I feel it’s my duty to use my position to make a positive impact and assist people wherever I can. I enjoy taking on big challenges, but I can’t do it alone.”
Prince William’s two-part documentary, called “Prince William: We Can End Homelessness,” is made by Mindhouse. It is directed by Leo Burley, who has won a BAFTA award, and is produced by Arron Fellows.
