‘Blue Moon’ screening brings applause—Ethan Hawke’s unforgettable transformation!

After the screening, the entire Palast Theater erupted in applause for Linklater and his star-studded cast, especially for Ethan Hawke, star of the Before trilogy and Boyhood, who made a stylish entrance in a checkered suit and a large multicolored tie.

Hawke’s character in the film Blue Moon was so transformed that he was almost unrecognizable on screen—especially in terms of his height, as in real life songwriter Lorenz Hart was only 5 feet tall. Emotions Run High on the ‘Blue Moon’ Stage—Linklater and Hawke Share a Precious Moment!

Director Richard Linklater shared on stage, “We wanted the film to feel like a Rodgers and Hart song—totally live, cheeky, sad, touching, and funny, all at once.” He also revealed that the project took 12 years to work on but joked, “Hawke was a little young for the role initially!”

Ethan Hawke said of his approach to the role, “It was an exercise in simplicity—I looked at it like music or a Matisse drawing, incredibly simple.” But on stage, he also had to deal with a superfan who kept trying to speak. Hawke responded with a smile, “Thank you so much; I love you too. Let’s see you later!”

Later, the actor signed an autograph for the fan and smiled politely when she patted him on the arm—a moment that won over the audience!
