Stars can sometimes hate their on-screen bridesmaid dress, even if it’s by Vera Wang!
Sarah Jessica Parker is still “really still pissed off” about the frock Charlotte (Kristin Davis) wore to her first wedding on Sex and the City. Davis revealed on the latest episode of her podcast Are You a Charlotte? that Parker didn’t like the Vera Wang dress her character wore in the third season’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” episode at all, and she still frets about it to this day!
When Sarah Jessica Parker changed her own wedding dress on Sex and the City!
Kristin Davis made the shocking revelation while recalling Charlotte’s wedding scenes, “Sarah did not want to wear beige to Charlotte’s wedding.” It was the same day that showrunner Michael Patrick King described as “one of the longest days of his life.”
But the real drama began when Sarah Jessica Parker hated the beige Vera Wang dress so much that she cut it up herself to try and give it a new look. King joked, “She hated the dress so much that she started putting pieces of tartan on it because Trey was wearing a kilt!”
The scene was hilarious, but it was clear that SJP did not like the dress at all. Everyone on set was shocked and laughing at the sight. This was one of those moments in Sex and the City history that became one of the funniest but unbelievable behind-the-scenes stories.

When Sarah Jessica Parker was outraged at wearing a beige dress to a Sex and the City wedding!
Kristin Davis recalled, “She was really mad!” Sarah Jessica Parker disliked the beige outfit at Charlotte’s wedding so much that she came up to Davis and said, “I don’t understand…” to which Davis replied, “But it’s Charlotte’s wedding! Of course, you have to wear matching clothes. I don’t understand what you don’t understand!”
However, it wasn’t only Parker who disagreed with the dress. Showrunner Michael Patrick King later joined his own star when he strongly objected to another costume design in Season 6. He revealed that when costume designer Patricia Field showed him the iconic Versace “mille-feuille” dress—which Carrie wore to a Paris hotel—he was equally shocked.
Carrie’s iconic Versace dress – a struggle to get on the show!
Sex and the City showrunner Michael Patrick King shared an interesting story about when costume designer Patricia Field showed him a stunning dress that arrived from Paris.
“[Field] said, ‘It just came from Paris. It wants to be on the show.'” King thought the dress was beautiful, but his first question was, “How is Carrie going to get it there?” He immediately pointed out the logistical difficulties, “It would take three huge trunks to get it from New York to Paris!”
King tried to explain that the dress was extremely impractical for Carrie’s lifestyle. “I gave her all the logical reasons why it couldn’t be there, but Field was adamant.”
Ultimately, the dress not only made it onto the show but became one of Sex and the City’s most iconic fashion moments! 💃✨
Carrie’s iconic Versace dress: When logic bowed to fashion!
Michael Patrick King shared that as he walked out the door, he realized the dress was meant to be a part of Sex and the City. He stopped, turned around, and told Field, “Okay, it’ll stay!” It was a lesson for him—sometimes fashion trumps any logic. That’s why the mille-feuille dress is still remembered today!
On the podcast, King and Davis also discussed the show, its movies, and memorable moments from And Just Like That.
