Taye Diggs Reveals the Secret to Healthy Co-Parenting with Idina Menzel

Taye Diggs has found the perfect formula for relaxed, harmonious, and positive co-parenting with his ex-wife, Idina Menzel. He believes the keys to a successful co-parenting relationship are respect, open communication, and putting the child first.

“For us, it’s really quite simple. We’ve always put [our son] first,” the 54-year-old actor told Us Weekly exclusively ahead of celebrating National Margarita Day at Chili’s on Saturday, February 22. “That’s why there’s no room for negativity between us. We want him to feel as comfortable and loved as possible with both of us.”

Diggs, 54, and Menzel, 53, first met while working in the original Broadway cast of Rent in 1995. The couple married in January 2003 and welcomed their son, Walker, in September 2009. Despite divorcing in 2014, the two have maintained a co-parenting relationship filled with mutual respect and love, making them an inspirational example for blended families.

Strong partnership for son

Although the two decided to separate after four years of marriage, Taye Diggs and Idina Menzel have always prioritized the well-being of their 15-year-old son Walker. The most important thing for them is to stay united, continue to be good parents, and give their child a lot of love and support.

“The more we can all spend time together, the better it is for him. It gives him more love and positive energy,” Diggs told Us Weekly. “We are very proud of the way we are handling our co-parenting relationship. We hope that this relationship continues to be strong like this.”

Talking about Walker’s high school journey, Diggs revealed that his son is not showing much interest in acting right now. Instead, he is taking more interest in sports and focusing on athletics.

Son’s hard work and mother’s contribution

“Right now his focus is on basketball and weight training,” Diggs gushed. “It’s really proud to see him take athletics so seriously and also excel in his studies. All credit goes to his mom. She makes sure he stays on track. I wasn’t very good in school, but Walker is excelling. It’s not only a joy to see that; it’s also kind of a relief.”

When Diggs isn’t taking care of homework or driving his son to the basketball court, he’s planning his next meal—after reading a script, of course!

In celebration of National Margarita Day, Diggs has partnered with Chili’s to star in Lifetime’s new holiday classic film. The new film, I’ll Be Home for National Margarita Day, will bring fun and lighthearted entertainment to audiences.

A magical tale of love, tradition, and margaritas

This feel-good television movie follows former lovers Liz (Maria Menounos) and Sam (Taye Diggs), who reunite after years at a local Chili’s restaurant. Reminiscing over a cup of margarita, they begin to rediscover friendship and unspoken emotions.

Though everything seems perfect at first, things take a turn when a big city developer comes up with a condo plan that will destroy the town’s historic National Margarita Day tradition. Liz and Sam must put aside their differences and work as a team—not only to stop the developer, but to save the town’s precious tradition and perhaps even their own unfulfilled love!
